A Telluride Institution

Telluride Trappings & Toggery is Telluride’s longest-standing clothing store, having opened its doors in 1972. The ski area was just starting back then and most of the handful of full time residents were looking to ski powder and escape reality. Founders, Terry Tice and Susan Gulick lived in the back of the store and started their enterprise under the assumption that even cowboys and hippy ski bums needed a place to buy clothes. And they were right, as the store, which then housed mostly blue jeans and leather goods, quickly earned the reputation as being a cool, affordable, sensible place to shop.

50+ Years
Strong

Terry and Susan never thought that 50-plus years later their little clothing hub would still be around, never mind be the Telluride institution it is today. Now owned and operated by Wendy Basham and Todd Tice, the Toggery has expanded its repertoire to accommodate Telluride’s larger and more sophisticated clientele, featuring popular lines and offering mens, womens, and kids clothing, housewares, shoes and accessories. But although certain things have changed, a lot hasn’t. The spacious boutique still resides in its original location, right downtown on main street, still upholds the same reputation, and continues to offer a substantial selection of high quality, unique and functional clothing.
